CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) The District 24 Democratic-NPL Party held their district convention on March 6. Delegates to the convention nominated Larry Robinson for the North Dakota State Senate, along with Naomi Muscha and Sharon Buhr for North Dakota House of Representatives.
District Chairman Steve Anderson says “we are very proud to have three fantastic candidates nominated for the 2016 election. We are lucky to have Larry as our Senator for District 24. He is one of the most respected Senators in Bismarck. Naomi is running for her second term as Representative for District 24. She has proven herself through hard work and discernment. Sharon is highly qualified to represent District 24. She has given a lifetime of service to Valley City and Barnes County.”
Senator Larry Robinson was elected to the North Dakota State Senate in 1988 and has worked tirelessly to serve the people of District 24. During the most recent legislative session, he served on the Senate Appropriations committee as well as on several interim committees including Budget, Higher Education and Water Topics, among others. On the many years he has served our District, Larry had the following to say: “To enjoy any success, you must work across the aisle, be a consensus builder and be able to build relationships with colleagues in both political parties from across the state of North Dakota. I have worked hard to do just that. Should I be fortunate enough to be re-elected in November, I intend to continue to work on a number of important priorities. They include, strong support for our Veteran’s, our Senior Citizens, our DD Community, our children and families, school finance, support for the university, the Veteran’s Home, our local fire departments, cities, counties, and townships.”
Representative Naomi Muscha was elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives in 2012 and began serving her term in 2013. She is a retired teacher from the Enderlin area. During the 2015 Legislative Session, Naomi served on the Human Services Committee as well as the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and serves on the interim Human Services and Water Topics Committees among others. Naomi stated “It’s been a great privilege to serve the people of District 24 over the past three years and I’d be honored to serve another term. I didn’t go into the last election with a personal agenda
on my mind – nor am I doing so this time.”
One of the more prominent pieces of legislation Naomi worked on was HB 1463, which established rules that require employers to make reasonable accommodations for a female employee during a pregnancy. Naomi worked with both parties with members in both Chambers to pass this important piece of legislation.
Sharon Buhr has spent a lifetime of dedication to public service in our communities. She has spent 35 years in public health, served 21 years on the Valley City Public School Board, 15 of which she was the Board Chair. In addition, she has served on the Barnes County Public Health District (City County Health) for over 20 years. Not only has she spent a lifetime serving her community and working to improve people’s lives here at home, but Sharon has also spent 4 years in South Africa and 6 months in Liberia working in public health. Sharon states: “We have a wonderful county and district, and a beautiful state. We do, however, have a number of issues that need to be addressed in the next session, including state finance, permanent flood protection for Valley City and Lisbon, and addressing affordable housing as many homes are being removed to make way for flood protection. We need to support our farmers and also ensure that we continue to adequately support education. I have been involved in my community for a lifetime, and have dedicated myself to public service. It would truly be an honor to represent the people of District 24 in the North Dakota House of Representatives.”
District 24 includes Barnes County as well as portions of Cass and Ransom Counties.
