Art Goffe was born in Jamestown, North Dakota, on December 13, 1944 to Hiram and Ruth (Marston) Goffe. He graduated from Jamestown High School and earned his teaching degree from Valley City State College in 1966. That same year, he married Sandy Krueger, his high school sweetheart. Art and Sandy made their home in Valley City where he worked for Valley City High School as a teacher and coach until his retirement in 2006. He always enjoyed seeing former students and hearing about their lives. An American History teacher, Art believed strongly in every citizen’s responsibility to take an active part in the political process. He served the Valley City community as a City Commissioner for 20 years and two terms as a representative in the North Dakota State Legislature. Once retired, he moved to West Fargo to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Art loved spending time with family and friends. His favorite place was Lake Lida, MN. He loved to sit on the deck and watch his grandchildren enjoy the lake, offering freezies and candy at every opportunity. Regular rounds of golf with his usual four-some were another summer highlight.
Art is survived by his four children, Sara Schafer, Fargo, ND, John (Georgia), Fargo, ND, Amy (Daryn) McBeth, Plymouth, MN, and Scott (Rhea), Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Anna and Grant Goffe, Gavin, Wyatt, and Mallory McBeth, and Cade and Jett Goffe; close friend Kay Tanata, West Fargo, ND; his brothers Stan (Esther), Enumclaw, WA, and Bob (Carol), Courtney, ND; sisters Joan Wagner, Jamestown, ND, and Linda Steger, Fargo, ND; brothers-in law Mike (Susan) Krueger, Fargo, ND, and Pat (Jean) Krueger, Brainerd, MN; sisters-in-law Ginny (Jim) Brousseau, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Leslie Klingenstein (Ken), Fargo, ND, and Jennifer Beal, Beaufort, SC; and many wonderful nieces and nephews with whom he shared special memories. Art also leaves behind great friends who were like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Sandy.
Thank you to everyone who supported him through Sandy’s death and his health struggles.
