N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police Department has taken to social media to announce phony IRS calls that are being reported in the area.
According to Lt. Robert Opp, Jamestown area residents are receiving scam calls from individuals claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Services. A release from Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem states that the artist claims the taxpayer has ignored previous messages and will be charged with fraud unless they talk with the scammer.
“These calls are not from the IRS. The scam artists just want to steal your money,” said Stenehjem, who suggested residents simply delete the message or hang up on calls.”
If you’ve received this call, contact your local authorities immediately. The IRS says they do not operate that way and to not distribute your personal information over the phone.
