The Mustangs had held the Cardinals scoreless after the first quarter, but a strong second half, which featured the Cardinals outscoring their opponent 27-17, allowed Ellendale to claw their way back and force overtime.

The pace of the game was balanced in the first overtime period, forcing a second, but by the tail end of the second overtime, the Mustangs were able to slowly pull away from the Cardinals.

South Border had four players in double figures, lead by Hunter Pinke who had 22 points and played with four fouls throughout the fourth quarter and both overtime periods. Brennen Vance lead the Cardinals in scoring with 17 points.
