N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Members of the United Sportsmen of North Dakota Jamestown Chapter and area residents came together to discuss the latest developments in finding a location for a gun range.

Curt Kaseman led the meeting, pointing out that the group has secured an attorney and public accountant. The club has also signed an article of incorporation and submitted it to the Secretary of State, which will make the Jamestown Marksmanship Education Range a non-profit and allow for the group to hold fundraisers.

Kaseman stated that the cost of the project would rely on the community’s involvement, pointing out that the newly constructed Bismarck Rifle Range is an example of that.

The biggest issue the group faces is finding potential property to build the new range on. Several criteria have been established that include land of around 25 to 40 acres within 10 miles of Jamestown, well established road to the property, a high natural back stop, the ability to have power and water, and no structures down range from the firing line.

Kaseman announced that he had already been asking several land owners within a 6-mile radius if they would be willing to give land to the project.

The group will begin looking at different grants and ways to begin raising funds once they are an approved corporation. Individuals that have any questions or want to donate land can contact the United Sportsmen of North Dakota Jamestown Chapter.
