(NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown High wrestler Paxton Mewes won the state championship at 160-lbs Saturday in Fargo at the state wrestling tournament. Mewes finished second in 2015 and was coming off an ACL injury this fall.
Mewes, seeded first, took down third-seeded Aaron Deike in the championship match via a pin with 13 seconds left in the match. The win gave him 52 wins on the season and only one loss to a wrestler from Minnesota.
Mewes is the first Blue Jay to win 50 matches in a season.
