Skramstad, age 78, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, February 19th at Mercy Hospital in Valley City. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 25th at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and one hour before the service at the funeral home chapel on Thursday morning. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery near Valley City in the spring.
JoAnne Elaine Monson, the daughter of Henry and Eleanor (Dahl) Monson, was born September 9, 1937 in Marion, ND. JoAnne grew up in the Litchville and Marion, ND area and attended school at Clark City and Svea rural school. JoAnne received her teaching certificate from Valley City State Teachers College. On May 6, 1957, she married Thorvald Skramstad in Valley City. The couple lived in the Valley City area where JoAnne raised her family and then began working for Holiday’s Grocery Store. JoAnne worked for Holiday’s for many years before transferring to Fargo, ND where she worked for Nash Finch for 13 years until her retirement in 2002. After her retirement, she moved back to Valley City where she enjoyed flowers, gardening and crafts. JoAnne’s passion was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
JoAnne is survived by her children, Lori (Shelly) Skramstad, Decatur, IN, Rory Skramstad, Fargo, ND, Elaine (David) Friestad, Brenda Skramstad, both Valley City, ND and Cindy (Kevin) Loibl, Fingal, ND; grandchildren, Brett (Sabrina) Skramstad, Decatur, IN, Chelsey (Reuben) Byler, Decatur, IN, Brianna (Nate) Stimpson, Fort Wayne, IN, Emily (Trevor) Matthews, Hunter Skramstad, Austin Skramstad, all Fargo, ND, Rusty Loibl, Fingal, ND and Lindsey Loibl, Valley City, ND; step grandchildren, Jordan Friestad, Detroit Lakes, MN and Greg Friestad, Dickinson, ND; great-grandchildren, Bryar and Owen Skramstad, Brinley and Dakota Byler and Collin Loibl; four brothers, Dennis (Dorothy) Monson, Fargo, ND, Ronald (Pauline) Monson, Detroit Lakes, MN, Jerry (Florence) Monson, Squim, WA and Jim (Clarice) Monson, Proberta, CA; and one sister, Cheryl (Jerry) Jerome, Beaverton, OR.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her husband, parents and several aunts and uncles.
