(NewsDakota.com) The Jamestown High School boys hockey team came within earshot of making their second state tournament appearance in three years, but a late surge by the Bismarck Century Patriots ended the Jays chances in a 5-2 loss Saturday.

Down three goals in the middle stages of the second period, Austin Rene placed the Jays on the board. Rene’s goal through the middle of the third gave Jamestown a chance late. However, roughly four minutes later, the Patriots’ Parker Simonson scored his second goal of the game to increase the lead to two. Jake Yineman’s power-play goal a minute and a half later sealed the deal.

Both of Rene’s goals were unassisted. Zach Hanson made 25 saves on 29 shots for Jamestown.
