N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Curbside Recycling continues to be an area of concern and interest for residents and members of the City Beautification Committee.

In 2015, the City of Jamestown entered a $98,000 contract with an outside consultant to view the feasibility of curbside recycling in the community. HDR, Inc. of Bismarck reported in November 2015 that they were around 60% done with the study, but members of the Beautification Committee were concerned with some of the numbers that were being presented. Beautification committee member Joan Morris.

Morris also pointed out that the annual cost for recycling in Jamestown was estimated to cost more than the city of Fargo.

The Beautification Committee was having issues receiving the numbers from the firm to look them over. They stated that they were concerned that the firm was being paid for a job they weren’t doing. Mayor Katie Andersen stated that she was on the committee that selected this group to conduct this study, so there was no reservations giving them to job.

Mayor Andersen mentioned that because the city doesn’t have a city engineer at the moment, there may have been a lapse in communication between the firm and city in regards to the study. Andersen pointed out that the contract between HDR. Inc and the city was a lump-sum contract, so there was leverage in case the firm didn’t complete their end of the contract.
