(NewsDakota.com) After facing some strong adversity Thursday, the Jamestown High School boys hockey team rebounded in fine fashion on Friday in a 5-2 victory over Hazen/Beulah.
Things started off quite well for the Jays. Jamestown had goals from Samuel Grugel and Braden Sherfy in the first period. Austin Rene’s second period short-handed goal made it a 3-0 game after two periods.
In the third, the North Stars did rally a couple of time to pull within two goals, but a Rene power play goal and a tally from Leopold Halko helped to secure the victory.
Senior Zach Hanson received the start in net for the Jays, making 13 saves on 15 shots. Colin Johnson saw 54 Jamestown shots, and saved 49 of them.
The Jays will play Saturday at 1:15 p.m. against either Bismarck or Bismarck Century with a ticket to the State Hockey Tournament in Grand Forks next week on the line. Coverage on ESPN Jamestown and NewsDakota.com will start around 1 p.m.
