S.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Wednesday night trip to Dakota State ended in a split for the University of Jamestown basketball teams. The Jimmie men saw an 11-point lead with 3:30 left evaporate and lost 89-86. The women kept rolling and came into a place that haven’t played well the last few years and drilled the Lady T’s, 71-45.

Jamestown lead 31-23 at the half, but as they have throughout their 11-game winning streak they used one big quarter to bury their opponent. The Jimmies stormed out of the gates in the 3rd quarter with six steals in a seven possession stretch (including four of Dewald’s five steals in the quarter). They outscored Dakota State 24-9 and never looked back.
Dewald lead the Jimmies with 14 points, four assists and six steals. Jamestown improves to 25-4 (11-0) on the year and will host Waldorf on Wednesday in the opening round of the North Star playoffs at the Jamestown Civic Center.

The Trojans entered the game 2-10 in games against teams in the Top-25 or receiving votes. With the North Star men’s standings in complete shambles at the top, Dakota State did their part to further muddle it up with a three-point win to sweep the season series against Jamestown.
The Jimmies lead 83-72 with 3:30 left in the game, but the Trojans closed the game on a 17-3 run to steal the victory. With the win, they now have an inside track at one of the top-two seeds in the conference tournament. Jamestown is looking at the three or four seed now.
Brequan Tucker moved 26 points closer to becoming the schools all-time leading scorer. Tucker needs 34 more points to pass Beau Hensel for the top-spot on the scoring list.
Both teams are at Mayville State on Saturday before the conference tournament’s begin next week.
