N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington Cardinals captured the District 5 girls basketball title with a defensive 37-35 win over the Edgley-Kulm-Montpeiler (EKM) Rebels. The Cardinal’s captured their first District 5 title (2nd year in District 5) & will advance to the Region 3 tourney as the number 1 seed from District 5, the Rebels will advance as the number 2 seed from District 5. Carrington improved it’s overall record to 17-5 (3 OT losses) and EKM dropped to 18-3 (2 losses to Carrington).
The Cardinals would shoot only 30 percent from the field (12-40), but held the Rebels to only 29 percent (12-41). The Cardinal’s led in scoring with 7 points including Abigail Jarrett, Ann Endres, and Maara Nelson. Jill Endres added 6 points and 6 rebounds, Haley Hewitt and Kauri Hochhalter netted 5 points. Hochhalter added 5 rebounds and 3 steals, Nelson hauled in 5 rebounds & 4 steals.
The Rebels were paced by Katie Entzi’s 14 points and6 rebounds, Olivia Anderson’s 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Region 3 Qualifier
Lamoure-LM 63 Midkota 35
The Lamoure-LM (LMM) Loboes knocked off the Midkota Mustangs 63-35 to advance to the Region 3 tourney next week & a chance to defend their 2015 championship. The Loboes outscored Midkota in every quarter in the 28 point victory. Anna Holen led the way offensively for LMM, scoring a game high 24 points (5 three’s) and grabbed 6 rebounds. Kindra Hamlin also scored 10 points. Katrina Hoff added 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals and Jackie Meiklejohn added 9 points and 4 steals. The Mustangs were paced by Taylor Sabinash’s double-double, scoring 11 points and hauling in 13 rebounds. Midkota finishes the year with a 8-13 overall record and LMM improved to 18-4.

Ellendale 47 Barnes County North (BCN) 29
Isabell Wedell made sure her team was going to play another day in the 2015-16 season as she poured in a game high 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals to lead the Cardinals to a 47-29 win over BCN. The Bison led early 5-4 at the end of the first quarter, but it was all Ellendale after that, outscoring BCN 43-24 in the final 3 quarters. The Cardinals forced 26 BCN turnovers and had 15 steals, led by Wedell’s 4, 3 each for Alyssa Nishek and Kaitlyn Schimke. The Bison shot only 18 percent from the field (10 percent in the first half), 7-40 shooting. Sam Wieland led the way with 13 points and 6 rebounds. The Bison finished there season with a 9-13 overall record and Ellendale improved to 13-8.
