CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Governor Dalrymple’s state mandated cuts of slightly more than 4 percent will affect the amount of money available for water projects across North Dakota.
In Valley City, Commissioner Mary Lee Nielson says $18 million is still available for the city through the State Water Commission fund to use for the next phase of permanent flood protection. But she says there will be leaner years ahead while oil prices remain low.
Nielson is a member of the Coalition of Water Users. She says the legislature appropriated $664 million in 2015 but the state cut that amount back to $200 million after Governor Dalrumple order the 4 percent cut.
Nielson says $100 million will be divided between Fargo and Grand Forks for flood control and water treatment plant projects leaving $100 million dollars left for other water projects across North Dakota.
