(NewsDakota.com) In their monthly meeting Monday night, the Oakes City Council voted to send a letter of support for a project to create a second preschool in town to the Oakes School board.
A representative from the lone preschool, Tiny Tornadoes, reported classes are presently full with a waiting list. The proposed new service will be located in the school and plans to have two sessions running three hours each, four days a week. The committee heading the project is recommending applying for a North Dakota Early Childhood Grant, charging a tuition comparable to other preschools, and possibly partnering with Head Start.
Concerns were raised regarding curriculum, funding, and need, but those concerns were not enough to dissuade the Council’s support of the project.
In other Council news, the City was awarded an America the Beautiful Tree Planting grant to plant trees along Highway 1 from the north railroad tracks to the south railroad tracks.
