CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City State University used another well balanced attack in their win over Mayville State in North Star women’s basketball. The Mayville State Comets would limit the Vikings offense and extended their winning streak to three straight games on the men’s side. 

Women’s Game – VCSU 86 MSU 66

The Vikings had four players score in double figures and were led by Lexi Lennon with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

Mackenzie Huber scored a season high 18 points for VCSU (13-8 overall, 6-2 NSAA).

Mayville State (14-8 overall, 5-3 NSAA) was led by Andi Gayner with 23 points. The Comets shot 7-28 from beyond the arc in the game, while VCSU went 9-16.

VCSU: Lennon 20, Huber 18, Schwanke 16, Williams 11, Schlecht 7, Connor 4, Chakin 4, Dixon 2, Bass 2, Vandal 2. 

MSU: Gayner 23, Lundon 22, Hoglo 14, Ertl 5, Heier 2. 

Men’s Game – MSU 65 VCSU 50

Mayville State trailed 30-24 at the half against VCSU, however the Comets would limit the Vikings to 20 points in the second half in the win. 

The Vikings (18-7 overall, 6-3 NSAA) shot 6-28 from the floor in the final 20 minutes of play, while Mayville State (14-8 overall, 4-5 NSAA) went 13-26. 

Jamal Branco scored a game-high 24 points for the Comets, while Jayden Ferguson paced the Vikings with 13 points on the night.
