(NewsDakota.com) – Saturday the Blue Jay hockey teams hosted a pair of games at Wilson Arena. The girls suffered a 4-1 defeat to Williston, and the boys game went to the buzzer before the Jays pulled off a 5-4 victory over Hazen-Beulah.
The girls get a week off before hosting Grand Forks on Saturday, February 6th. The boys will travel to Devils Lake in a non-conference game Tuesday night. Williston 4 Jamestown 1 The Coyotes led 2-0 just four minutes into the game and never looked back. Williston outshot the Jays 54-12.
Blue Jay goalie Erin Anderson finished with 50 saves. Sydney Soulis scored the lone goal for the Jays, her 6th of the season. Soulis had Jamestown’s only goal as well on Friday night in a 6-1 defeat to Minot. Jamestown 5 Hazen-Beulah 4
The Blue Jay boys also found themselves in an early rut, down 2-0 after four minutes. Gage Thompson scored his 4th of the season to slice it down to 2-1 after one. After a Northstar’s power play goal early in the second had the Blue Jays down 3-1, Jamestown got things going with three unanswered goals. Conner Fuchs blasted home his second of the season, followed by Austin Rene’s team leading 18th, and capped off by the first varsity goal for Levi Donegan-Wahl.
Those three goals came in a span of seven minutes and helped Jamestown take a 4-3 lead to the locker room after two. Hazen-Beulah struck for the tying goal midway through the third and that set the stage for Leapold Halko’s game winner on the power play with only 3:23 remaining. For the first line Sophomore it was his 10th goal of the season. Goalie Matthew Schneider came up with 28 saves, as the Jays outshot the Northstar’s 38-32.
Jamestown improves to 8-7-2 over all and 7-4-2 in the West Region, and continue to hold down the number four spot in the conference standings.
