L. Helland, age 94, of Valley City, ND, was called to her Creator on January 29th at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.  A prayer service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, February 4th at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home Chapel.  Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the Funeral Home.  Inurnment will be in Woodbine Cemetery in the spring.

Alice Lenore Edwardson, the daughter of Christian and Emma (Johnson) Edwardson, was born August 5, 1921 in Henning, MN.  Alice grew up and attended school in Henning, MN.  On October 20, 1942 she married Frederick Heifort in Henning.  She remained with her family while her husband served in the US Army during World War II.  Following the war, the couple headed west and managed several cafés in Baker, MT, Bowman, ND and Mott, ND.  They eventually settled in Williston where they owned and operated several restaurants and a motel.  They moved to Valley City where Fred was employed by the ND Dairy Department.  He passed away in March, 1991.  Alice married Denver Helland on April 6, 2002.  Alice was a member of Grace Free Lutheran Church.  She loved to cook and invite friends over for meals.  Her specialties were doughnuts, lefse and meatballs.  Another hobby was dancing.  After she was no longer able to participate, she watched the polka fest on television.  Alice became a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center in May, 2010. She loved her family and her extended family of caregivers at the Sheyenne Care Center.  Mr. Helland died on January 28, 2014.

Alice is survived by her children, Patricia (John) Olson, Oriska, ND and Chris Heifort, Alexandria, MN; four grandchildren, Donna (Chad) Martel, Fargo, ND, Joe (Brittany) Olson, Jacksonville, AR, Steph (Rob) Glessing, Bemidji, MN and Casey Olson, Oriska, ND; and four great-grandchildren, Derrick (Amanda Cole) Mooridian, Dominic Martel, Addison Olson and Cooper Olson.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Fred and Denver, three sisters, and a grandson, Dwayne.
