(NewsDakota.com) – Entering play last night the University of Jamestown basketball teams had different motives in their match-ups vs. Dickinson State. The women were slated to battle the No. 19 team in the country and prove that the NSAA still goes through Jamestown. The men on the other hand were seeking revenge for a 14-point loss at Dickinson about 10 days prior.
WBB: #10 Jimmies 81, #19 Dickinson State 71
Jamestown’s stifling perimeter defense was the big story in this one as they pestered the Blue Hawk guards for all forty minutes. They only caused 12 turnovers, but you could tell by the end the DSU guards were tired of needing 10-12 seconds on each possession to get into their half-court offense.
Jessica Buck was indefensible in the first half putting up 16 of her team-high 27. The Jimmies ran out to a 21-point lead before half. Dickinson did cut it down to eight in the second half on two occasions, including once in the closing minutes.
McKayla Orr knocked down four of the Jimmies 13 three-pointers and she finished with 19.
MBB: Dickinson St. 82, Jimmies 77
Jamestown trailed 76-75 with under a minute to go when KeWan Davis stuffed back a Jake Hagler miss with a thunderous dunk. However, on the ensuing possession with 21 seconds left Jacob Gondrezick hit a three from the top of the key to give Dickinson State the lead for good.
Jamestown was outscored 46-34 in the second half after leading by seven at the break.
Julian Vasquez lead the Blue Hawks with 27 points. Hagler’s 24 paced the Jimmies.
