(NewsDakota.com) – The middle part of a three-game home stand was another strong performance by both Jimmie basketball teams Sunday afternoon at the Jamestown Civic Center. The women used a 37-point third quarter to rout the Comets 93-66. The men made their free throws at the end to pull away for an 83-72 win.

Taylor Hammer poured in a game-high and career-high 23 points including five triples to lead the Jimmie women to their fourth consecutive win. Jamestown scored 37 points in the third quarter as they came out firing on all cylinders after halftime.

Jamestown knocked down 11 shots from beyond the arc and their suffocating defense didn’t give Mayville much room to breathe. Andi Gaynor was the only Comet who made a dent offensively finishing with 23.

The Jamestown men picked up their second straight conference win at home knocking off Mayville St, who was fresh off a three-point upset of Dickinson State from Wednesday night. The first half was pretty tight with each team holding four-to-five point leads.

In the second half, the Comets opened on an 11-0 run to take a nine-point lead. But Jamestown quickly countered with a pair of threes to start and a 10-0 run of their own to take the final lead change of the game. Brequan Tucker finished two assists shy of a triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.

Jamestown welcomes Dickinson State to the Civic Center on Wednesday night. The Blue Hawk women will come in as a top-20 team. The DiSU men just beat the Jimmies over a week ago by 14 in Dickinson.
