(NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown basketball teams swept their North Star doubleheader with Valley City State at the Civic Center on Wednesday night. The No. 12 Jimmie women used a big run before halftime to get up and win 83-65. The Jimmie men knocked off No. 12 VCSU in a game that saw 100 free throws and 69 fouls called, 96-90.

WBB: Jimmies 83, Vikings 65

Valley City State took a 28-22 lead midway through the second quarter, but Jamestown guard Kyra Dewald starting heating up and lead the Jimmies on a 20-4 run to close the half. Dewald finished with 19 points, 15 of which came before half time.

The Jimmies opened the second half on an 8-0 run and were able to build their lead to 25 early in the fourth quarter. Jessica Buck got going during the second 20 minutes and had 19.  Georgia Williams finished with 16 to lead VCSU.

MBB: Jimmies 96, Vikings 90

Jamestown opened the game quickly and jumped on VCSU to the tune of a 15-2 lead. The Vikings went almost 7:30 minutes before their first field goal. The Jimmies eventually stretched their lead to 17, but in the second half VCSU stormed back.

The Vikings got within one on three different occasions, but never lead. With VCSU down just one at 55-54, the Jimmies got back-to-back triples from Jake Hagler and Brequan Tucker. Halger finished with a game-high 32. Howell lead VCSU with 29.

Eight players (5 for VCSU, 3 for UJ) ended up fouling out with the 69 fouls called and 100 free throws shot.

VCSU goes to Presentation on Saturday. The Jimmies will host Mayville State on Sunday.
