CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Devils Lake jumped out to a 21-1 lead over the Valley City Hi-Liners in the first half of an Eastern Dakota Conference girls basketball contest, then the Firebirds hung on for dear life. 

Valley City sophomore guard, Kacie White drilled a three-pointer with 9 minutes left to go in the game and tied it at 42 apiece. 

Taryn Dieterle would give Valley City a 43-42 lead with a made free throw with 8:35 left to go, however Devils Lake (3-7 overall, 3-7 EDC) would respond and go on to a 68-52 win on Monday night. 

Dieterle paced Valley City (0-11 overall, 0-10 EDC) with 16 points, while Emily Schafer scored a game high 20 points for Devils Lake. 

Valley City travels to Fargo North on Friday night at 5:45 for their next contest.
