N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington Cardinal girls basketball ended a 3 game losing steak by defeating the Barnes County North Bison (BCN), 65-34. The loss for BCN snapped a 6 game winning streak. The Cardinals & Bison were tied 25-25 at halftime, but the Cardinals offense started clicking in the second half outscoring the Bison 40-9 and cruised to the 31 point victory.
Carrington’s Haley Hewitt and Kauri Hochhalter led the scoring with a game high 15 points each. Maara Nelson added 9 points, 7 were in the Cardinals big 23 point third quarter. Carmen Pederson also added 8 points, Jill Endres and Emerson Hoornart dropped in 6 points. Hewitt added 4 steals and 2 assists, while Hochhalter hauled in 8 rebounds, and Nelson picked up 4 steals. The Bison were led by Sam Wieland’s 14 points, Jayda Haugen 10, and Tess Scott added 7. Carrington improved to 7-4 (3 losses in overtime) and 2-2 in District 5 play. BCN dropped to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in District 5 play.
