CITY, N.D. – (NewsDakota.com) Officials with Job Service North Dakota are reducing staff and closing offices including those in Valley City, Oakes, Grafton, New Town, Beulah and Rolla.

Executive Director Cheri Giesen said due to federal funding cutbacks Job Service of North Dakota was forced to make a $4.1 million cut in its budget.

She said 22 employees were laid off along with 12 part-time and 26 vacant positions were cut. The employees will receive one month severance and be 2 months of health insurance.

Giesen said the agency will encourage job seekers and those looking for unemployment benefits to go on-line.

Giesen thanked the employees for their service to the agency.

The two people who worked full-time in the Valley City office were told yesterday that their jobs had been cut and the office is officially closed.

In Oakes, one position was eliminated but the office will remain open until February 6th.
In Valley City Job Service North Dakota will provide services with staff members from the Fargo office the first and third Tuesday of each month through April 2016.

After April 30th, Job Service will look for a community location like the library, city or county offices to provide services through June 30th.

After June 30th claims will have to be filed on-line or you’ll have to drive to the nearest Job Service office in Jamestown or Fargo.
