CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Northern Plains Electric announced its approval of several charitable grants from Operation Round Up totaling $9,000 to help support area causes.

According to Katie Ryan-Anderson, the board made the decision to donate funds to 15 causes in the Northern Plains Electric service area. Members of the co-op voluntarily elect to have their electric bills rounded up to the next dollar to donate to the cause. This averages about 50 cents a month from each participating member and raises nearly $37,000 every year.

Since the program started in 1998, the grants have totaled $630,262 and have been awarded to 855 local charitable causes. Below is a list of grants approved in December:

Towner County Medical Center, Cando, infusion chairs.

Prairie Paws Rescue, Jamestown, pets for foster home project

Kiwanis Club, Harvey, playground equipment.

Benson, Eddy, Griggs, Kidder, Pierce, Ramsey, Rolette, Stutsman, Towner and Wells Counties and Carrington Daily Bread, food pantries and giving trees.
