E. Flegel, 64, Medina ND, died on January 2, 2016 at the Ava Maria Village in Jamestown, ND. LeRoy was surrounded with his wife Valerie and his son Chris, daughter-in-law, Shannon and his three granddaughters Kendra(15), Erica(11), and Jenna(6). LeRoy was diagnosed with a non-typical form of Parkinson’s Disease and most recently diagnosed with lung cancer.

LeRoy was born on May 2nd, 1951 to Edwin and Hilda (Frank) Flegel in Linton, ND. He was raised on a farm in Hazelton, ND, where he milked cows, broke horses and did numerous chores. He loved wrestling and playing football. LeRoy graduated from Hazelton High School in 1969 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He had a skill of typing and he was assigned to a USMC unit in Camp Pendleton, (San Diego, CA) during the Vietnam War conflict. LeRoy returned to ND to work various jobs and then settled in with the Burlington Northern Railroad in Mandan, ND. LeRoy met his wife Valerie (Gallagher) in Mandan and they were married on May 24th, 1975. LeRoy and Valerie had two sons. The couple moved to Medina, ND in 1976. LeRoy enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, yard work, and training his dogs. He retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway as a track inspector with over 30 years of service. He was a volunteer Hunter Safety Instructor with the ND Game & Fish Dept. sponsored by the Medina Sportsman Club and was member of the American Legion Adam Job post # 245. He enjoyed spending time with family, supported Medina athletics and also had a passion for the MN Vikings.

LeRoy E. Flegel leaves behind his wife Valerie (Gallagher) of 40 years, a son Chris (Shannon) New Market, MN; his three granddaughters Kendra, Erica, and Jenna; a brother Virgil (Nancy), Lincoln, NE; sisters Pam Bosch, Columbus, NE, Connie (Chuck) Conley, Helena, MT, Annette (Phillip) Rockville, MD, Rhonda Flegel, Bismarck, ND and sister-in-law Patty (Arlo) Flegel.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his son, Samuel, his parents Edwin and Hilda(Frank) Flegel, a brother Arlo (Patty) Flegel, sister Janice (Frank) Holzer, a brother-in-law Chuck (Connie) Conley, nephew Cory Flegel and niece Elizabeth Flegel.

The Flegel Family expressed a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the Fargo VA, Fargo VA Community Living Center, Ava Maria Village and the Jamestown Hospital Hospice staff. The family also sends a Thank You to all of the care givers that helped LeRoy through his journey fighting Parkinson’s Disease and most recently Lung Cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 8, 2016 at St. Mathias Catholic Church, Windsor, ND, with Father Joe Barrett officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: St. Pauline Cemetery, Windsor, North Dakota.

Memorials: May be sent to: Medina Sportsman Club, Medina America Legion, Jamestown Hospice, Ava Maria Village and Fargo VA Community Living Center.
