A. Bitz, 66, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Friday morning, January 1, 2016 with his family by his side.

Gary Allan Bitz was born on June 13, 1949, in Jamestown, the son of George and Elvera (Gaier) Bitz. He graduated from Valley City High School and received his teaching and physical education degrees from Valley City State University. Gary taught math and phy.ed. at Binford for two years. He attended Northwestern University Police Staff and Command and enlisted in the Army Guard. Gary married Debbie Olson on June 10, 1978 in Hoople, ND. He then enlisted with the Air National Guard Military Police, with whom he became a Master Sergeant and retired in 1994. He was a member of the Air National Guard “Happy Hooligans” of Fargo.

Gary became a North Dakota Highway Patrolman upon his graduation from the North Dakota Highway Patrol Academy. He retired as Sergeant from the highway patrol in 2002 after 26 years of service. Gary was also a car dealership license inspector for the State of North Dakota.  

Gary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, past president and current secretary/treasurer of NDPOA, and treasurer of Sertoma.

Gary is survived by his wife, Debbie Bitz; two sons, Nathan (Andrea Clemens) Bitz and Jason Bitz; two grandchildren, Jackson and Maddison; and sister, Sharon (Don) Jacobson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and Paul.

Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Kristi Weber officiating.

Prayer Service: 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Visitation: None Scheduled. Arrangements are in the care of Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota.
