CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Firefighters responded to a fire at a construction site today in Valley City shortly after 10am.
The owner of the structure Bob Bergen said a cutting tool started a fire in an elevator shaft in the basement once a spark hit oil residue.
He said the fire was contained to a small area. He said there was no smoke or fire damage to the structure now under construction. Bergen said we were fortunate and work will continue on the 20 unit condominium along 2nd Street Northwest in Valley City.
The original structure was a turkey processing plant for Land O’ Lakes after World War II. A fire also burned the structure back in August of 1983.
