N.D. (NewsDakota.com) For the first time in school history, the Cardinals of Carrington will travel to Rochester, Minnesota for the 14th Annual National High School Wrestling Duals Tournament, or better known as The Clash. The 2-day tourney starts on Friday, January 1st, 2016. Rochester will welcome 32 teams from 12 different states and a total of 96 duals will take place, with one champion crowned. Carrington is the only team from North Dakota participating, along with 11 teams from Minnesota, six from Illinois, three from California and two teams each from Oregon, Arizona and Missouri. Joining North Dakota with only one team in the tourney is New Mexico, Utah, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Ohio.
There are a total of four brackets (A-D) containing eight teams each, ranked 1 – 8. Carrington drew an eight seed in Bracket C and their first dual is Friday at 4pm against No. 1 Buchanan, California, a team from Clovis, right by Fresno in Central California. Clovis has a population of about 100,000 people and located about an hour and a half from Yosemite National Park. Buchanan High School is currently ranked number two in California and as high as fourth in the country in some polls. Last year they finished fourth in the State of California and were the 2006 State Champs. California has only one class for all of its high schools.
Action starts Friday morning with brackets A and B at 9am, followed by brackets C and D at 4pm. All teams are guaranteed three duals on Friday and three on Saturday. AM 1600 KDAK and newsdakota.com will provide updates for Carrington after their duals. Visit clashmn.com for more info.
