“Doc” Brown, age 81, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, December 25th at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 31st at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church and one hour before the service on Thursday morning. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the church. Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Valley City in the spring.
V. Duane Brown, the son of Vernon and Bernice (Hiles) Brown, was born September 1, 1934 in Estherville, IA. Doc grew up and attended school in the Estherville area. After his graduation, Doc served his country in the US Army. On October 15, 1957 he married Bonnie J. Fitzloff in Spencer, IA. Doc worked for General Mills for a time before enrolling in Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. After his graduation, he and Bonnie moved to Valley City where he opened his private practice in 1966. Doc practiced in Valley City until his retirement in 2006. He was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Valley City Rotary Club, and the El Zagal Shriners. Doc served as President of the North Dakota Chiropractic Association and served on its Board of Directors. Doc and Bonnie spent many summers traveling in their motor home with their dog Brandi. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting deer, antelope and bear.
Duane is survived by his wife Bonnie, Valley City, ND; daughters Kim (Barry) Diemert, Ellendale, ND, Lori (Rick) Anderson, West Fargo, ND and Jill (Brad) Bushaw, Bismarck, ND; one son, Jeff Brown, Valley City, ND; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob and his sister-in-law Mary.
