CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Kiwanis Club gave Barnes County Foster Families, Courtney Roberts and Ron & Deb Peterson a few gifts to say “thank you” for opening their hearts and homes to children in our county. Courtney, Ron and Deb are currently the only foster care providers in Barnes County.

The Kiwanis Club presented each family with water park passes and over $200 in Valley City Chamber Bucks to buy Christmas presents for children in their care.

Kiwanis President, Alison Kasowski said “we felt that providing gifts to these families, who are making a great impact on the children in our community, was fitting this time of year. They give, give and give, so it feels great to give something to them.”

Because there are only two families providing foster care in Barnes County, the need for additional families is great.  Deb Peterson said in her 30 years of service, she has had wonderful experiences with children coming from troubled families. These children need a stable environment, in some cases just for one night.

Deb Peterson and Courtney Roberts encourage anyone who has questions about foster care services to reach out to Lisa Bayley-Neurauter with Barnes County Social Services at 701-845-8521.
