CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City High School instrumental students competed in the Eastern Dakota Conference solo contest held at Valley City State University on December 3rd.
Instructor Tom Kjelland said VCHS students did well with the eight entries that performed. He said the students accumulated four “I” ratings, one region star rating and three state star ratings. VCHS received no “II” or “III” ratings. All of the VCHS ratings were excellent or above.
Kjelland said students receiving “I” ratings were: Lexi Ondracek on the tenor sax, David Opdahl on the french horn, Madisen Anderson on the flute and Jack Jordan on the trombone.
Receiving a “Region Star” rating was Sarah Montecuollo on the flute.
Receiving “State Star” ratings (the highest rating awarded) were Ashton Schonert on the clarinet, Tanaya Leifson on the flute and Tabatha Branam on the flute.
