CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 2015 Valley City Holiday Tournament was not decided until the second to last match of the night.
Valley City trailed Wahpeton by 3.5 points heading into the 220lbs championship match. Valley City’s Jordan Magnuson took to the mat against Grand Forks Central’s Brady Terrill. Magnuson is undefeated and the top ranked 220lbs wrestler in North Dakota and Terrill is ranked #4 in the latest Class A coaches poll. Magnuson prevailed with an 8-2 win and the precious 4 team points needed to take over the team lead once and for all.
The Hi-Liners placed seven in the finals and all twelve wrestlers entered in the tournament placed in the top 5, a very impressive accomplishment. Senior Jakob Ashline also dominated his way to his second consecutive Holiday tournament championship at 138lbs. Jakob scored an outstanding 25.5 team points on the day.
It was a total team effort as the Hi-liners needed every possible point to hold off a game Wahpeton team. Fargo Davies, the top ranked team in the EDC in the latest poll finished a distant third.
