Leroy Himmerich, 75, Jamestown, North Dakota, passed away December 20, 2015 at home surrounded by family and under the care of hospice after battling cancer.

Larry was born on October 16, 1940 at Bismarck, ND to Philip and Christine (Everding) Himmerich.  He grew up on farms in Napoleon, Burnstad, and Hannaford, ND.  He moved to Jamestown in 1956 where he met his wife Mary (Bly) and they were married on August 8, 1966 in Jamestown.  They lived in West Fargo where their son Charles (Chuck) was born and Valley City where their daughter Kristine (Kristi) was born. They lived briefly in Nebraska and then they moved back to Jamestown in 1972 and lived there until his death.

Larry’s main occupation was various construction work throughout the years.  He worked for Everett’s Construction in Jamestown for many years.  He spent some time working for his brother, Donald, putting up large power lines in Texas.  He also drove a concrete truck in Jamestown and, right before retiring, delivered the Jamestown Sun newspaper.

Larry’s biggest passion in life was stock car racing.  He started racing with his cousin Harry Himmerich in 1967 and continued on and off until 2003.  He shared this passion with his son, Chuck, and they took turns being each other’s pit man throughout the years.  The years Larry didn’t race he attended the races faithfully.  His favorite event was the Annual Stock Car Stampede in Jamestown that he attended every year either as a driver or a spectator.  Larry also enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Twins, and the Vikings.  Larry enjoyed his cat, Rascal, that he raised from birth.  And he also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his wife, Mary; son Chuck, Jamestown; daughter, Kristi (John) Morgan, Barnesville, MN; two grandchildren, Jacob and Kylie Morgan, Barnesville, MN; sister, DeLila Everson, Mesa, AZ; brother, Edwin Himmerich, Stanfield, OR. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Irene Eslinger and Loretta Eslinger; three brothers, Lawrence Himmerich, Donald Himmerich, and Charles Himmerich; and two brothers and one sister who died in infancy. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor Eric Weber officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
