N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Carrington Cardinal girl’s basketball team used a strong second half defensive effort to knock off the Midkota Mustangs 72-45. Carrington led 36-31 at halftime but outscored Midkota 36-14 in the final 16 minutes. Cardinal forward Maara Nelson (double-double) had a game high 23 points and 10 steals. Carrington also had 3 other girls in double figures, Haley Hewitt finished with 14 points and 5 steals, Emerson Hoornaert 11, and Kauri Hochhalter 10. Hochhalter added 10 rebounds earning the second double-double of the night with Nelson. Senior Ann Endres finished with 8 points, 1 basket away from having all five Cardinal starters hitting double figures in scoring. The Cardnials forced 25 Midkota turnovers while committing a season low 7. The Mustangs were led in scoring by 6’1 sophomore Taylor Sabinash with 14 and Jakenda Short with 10. Carrington improved to 6-1 on the seasn and Midkota dropped to 1-4.
