N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A rural Lisbon man has been arrested in the death of his 2-month infant son.

35 year-old Byron Whetsel is facing charges of murder, child neglect, and child abuse. Court documents show that Whetsel was alone with his son on October 29th when he says the boy started gurgling, not breathing and clear liquid was running out of his nose. The infant died later at a hospital.

An autopsy showed fractures on his ribs and bleeding on his brain. Whetsel denied knowing how the child died, saying it was the result of a propane leak and blaming others.

Whetsel has been in trouble with the law before dating back to 1999, with charges for drugs, sexual assault, burglary, assault and other crimes.
