N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The 2015 edition of the Stutsman County Girls Basketball Tourney kicked off Thursday at the Jamestown Civic Center with four games. Here are the results:
Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 53 Midkota/Kensal 19
The Lady Thunder get 11 points and five steals from Senior Madi Moldenhauer and roll passed the Lady Mustangs in the first game of the day. Leading the way for the Mustangs was Joslyn Hoyt and Jade Boote with seven and six points respectively.
Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 47 South Border 35
At the end of the first quarter the score was tied at nine, but the Rebels outscore the Mustangs 13-2 in the second quarter and go on to beat SB for the second time this year. Olivia Anderson for EKM led all scorers with 23 points, 16 boards, six blocked shots and three steals. Katie Entzie had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Rebels. South Border was led by Senior Brooke Buchholz with 11.
Carrington 54 Warwick 43
The defending Stutsman County champion Carrington Cardinals overcame an early deficit to the Warwick Warriors and went on to win 54-43 in the opening round of the tourney. The Cardinals trailed 14-11 at the end of the first period but went on a 8-0 run that started late in the first quarter and never trailed again. Carrington had three players score in double figures with Maara Nelson leading the way with a game high 18 points, Kauri Hochhalter added 13, and Haley Hewitt added 11. Nelson also chipped in 5 steals, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Hochhalter led the Cards with 8 rebounds. Hewitt also added 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists. Emerson Hoornaert added 9 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. The Cardinals shot 39 percent from the field overall (20-52), which included 4-9 (44 percent) from the three point line. The Cards also hit 10-12 free throws for a hot 83 percent, Nelson & Hochhalter combined to go 8-8 from the line. Warwick, 2-2 on the year, were led by Madison Leaf’s 15 points & Whisper Gourd’s 14. Leaf added 8 rebounds and 4 steals before fouling out of the game late in the fourth quarter. Sofia Hernandez had a game high 12 rebounds and also added 7 points, and 3 steals. The Warriors could only connect on 17 of 57 shots for a cool 30 percent shooting night. Carrington improved to 3-0 on the season and with play Ellendale in the semifinals on Friday night.
Ellendale 43 Napoleon-GS 33
The Ellendale Cardinals picked up their first win of the season, avenging a 35-32 loss to the Napoleon-Gackle Streeter Imperials earlier this season. Isabell Wedell led the Cardinals with a game high 17 points and 10 rebounds. Wedell also added 3 assists and 3 steals. Ellendale led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter but outscored the Imperials 33-24 in the final 3 quarters to pick up the win. Kaitlyn Schimke added 7 points for the Cardinals and had 3 assists and 2 steals. Napoleon-GS were led in scoring by Junior Emily Christofferson’s 14 points, and she added 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Kate Long added 9 points and 6 rebounds for the Imperials. Napoleon (1-2), will play Warwick at 4:30 Friday and Ellendale will take on Carrington at 7:30 Friday.
