Kunz, 89, of Oakes, ND, passed away December 3, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes.

Hazel Mildred, daughter of Raymond and Amelia (Wagner) Featherstone was born March 8, 1926 at Oakes, ND. She was the middle child with six brothers and one sister. Hazel graduated from Oakes High School in 1945. Her studies were interrupted during World War II when she went to work in the shipyards in Michigan. She later moved to Washington, where she joined the USO as a tap dancer.

Hazel married Gerald Kunz on October 16, 1946 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Oakes. They had two daughters, Lorraine and Nancy. After Jerry’s death in 1987 Hazel continued to live in Oakes, and spent winters in Colorado with family.

Hazel was a member of the Oakes United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, pulling tabs and playing bingo at the American Legion.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lorraine Spears and Nancy (Mickey) Michel; two grandchildren, Corey (Michelle) Michel and Erica (Peter) MacKellar; one great-granddaughter, Madeline; and one brother, Jim (Jan) Featherstone. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald, an infant brother, four brothers and one sister.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Oakes View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and memorials, the family would prefer donations be given to the American Legion in Oakes. An online guestbook may be signed at www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com
