N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It was a fast-paced, up and down basketball game between Valley City State University and North Dakota State University on Thursday night.

NDSU (2-1 overall) would hang on to win 85-77 over VCSU in women’s college hoops from the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.

VCSU (4-3 overall, 2-0 NSAA) shot the lights out in the first quarter and grabbed a 27-20 lead after the opening frame, however that didn’t last in the second quarter as the Bison limited the Vikings to just 7 points.

NDSU took a 43-34 lead at the half and would never trail for the rest of the game.

Marena Whittle led the Bison with 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Georgia Williams paced the Vikings with 27 points and went 5-10 from beyond the arc.

This was the first of two straight exhibition contests for VCSU. The Vikings travel to Bemidji State on Saturday for their next game at 2 p.m.
