CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A Valley City man who wanted to be on the city agenda tonight to talk about why the city should terminate Police Chief Fred Thompson was denied his request.
Bob Drake said he believes his constitutional rights of free speech are being violated by the city not allowing him to be on the city agenda.
City Attorney Russ Myhre said city employees and department heads have constitutional rights and are worthy of a due process concerning personal attacks made against them in a public setting.
Last week Bob Drake made a proposal to seek a city petition to have voters decide whether or not the city police department should be disbanded to save the city money. Under his proposal the Barnes County Sheriff’s office would be the official law enforcement agency for Valley City.
