Marvel Irene Haro, 82, Gackle, ND, died Friday November 13, 2015 at the Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, ND, due to complications of a stroke.
Nina was born August 24, 1933 at the family farm home northwest of Fredonia, ND, the daughter of Abner and Edna (Ollila) Haro. She attended Ellendale High School and graduated from the American Schools High School and College Program.
In 1955 she moved to Gackle with her parents, to her present home where she has lived the past 60-plus years.
A compassionate and loving person, Nina cared for both her parents in her home for over 50 years, through illnesses and convalescences. In her later life she suffered from limited mobility due to arthritis. Her home was her passion, flowers, shrubs, gardens, trees, and cooking delicious meals for family and friends, whenever they stopped to visit and during the holidays––hospitality par excellence.
Nina loved to travel, visiting relatives in Finland and Europe with her parents and nephew Justin. She also traveled to the southwest to New Mexico, Arizona, California, and also Oregon and Washington.
She will always be lovingly remembered for her sisu, her indomitable passion to overcome all problems. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her sisters, Evelyn Johnson, Aurora, MN, and Ruth (James) Doll, Glen Ullin, ND; nephew, Justin Anderson, Powers, MN; 2 nieces, Jessica (Mike) Wilkens, and Jackie (Greg) Kramer, St. Charles, MN; great nephew, Matthew Wilkens; great niece, Cassandra Kramer; and numerous cousins and friends.
