N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A discussion centering on teacher class size ratio in the Barnes County North School District was held on November 12.

School board Chairwoman Lori Carlson said the meeting focused on whether or not the district should reduce one teacher per classroom and increase the classroom size or keep it the same.

Carlson said additional talks about any proposal or proposals will be on future school board agenda’s. 

Carlson said she would prefer leaving the current system in place. She said the school district’s total enrollment dropped by 10 students compared to one year ago.

Carlson said the school district will have further discussions concerning enrollment being a large portion of school district funding in North Dakota is tied into a per pupil funding formula.

Meanwhile Barnes County North Superintendent and Principal Mark Lindahl tendered his resignation in September. Lindahl will retire at the end of the school year. He told the school board that he and his wife Mary will be moving to the Twin Cities to be closer to their grandchildren next year.
