CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A public meeting concerning the 5th Avenue Southwest one-way in Valley City will be up for discussion on Thursday night in the city hall commission chambers at 7pm.

Mayor Bob Werkhoven said the roadway is full of patches and presents a hazard and safety issue for Valley City motorists as indicated in the letter resident Rosie Larson wrote to Mayor Werkhoven.

Larson said, Recently, “I was going the direction that all the signs indicted, I made a left hand turn going out of 5th Ave. S.W. There is such a blind spot there, that I pulled out in front of a pickup…didn’t see him and he was going fast…the decision to reverse the one way puts resident motorists right into the pathway of fast moving traffic. The residents who live in this area are questioning why we were not advised of this decision before the signs went up.”

City Commissioner Mary Lee Nielson said the discussion is going to center on the one way street. Nielson said the city was asked by area residents to reconsider the direction and we agreed to talk about it and come to a decision that best fits the need of city residents.

The public meeting is set for Thursday at 7pm in the city commission chambers.
