ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Lamoure Loboes were pushed to the limit but held off Carrington in 5 sets to capture the District 5 volleyball title at Barnes County North (BCN) high school.
The match went back and fourth splitting the first 4 sets, Lamoure winning the 1st and 3rd sets. The Cardinals grabbing sets 2 and 4 setting up the fifth set. The Loboes took an early lead in the fifth and defeated the Cardinals 15-8. Anna Holen collected a match high 32 kills and 3 aces to lead the Loboes offensive attack. Kindra Hamlin and Katrina Hoff added 10 kills each for the Loboes. Carrington was led by Carmen Pederson with a season high 19 kills, Maara Nelson (18), & Kauri Hochhalter added 14. Jackie Meiklejohn had a match high 50 assists for the Loboes. The Loboes will take a 32-2-1 record into next weeks regional tourney as the #1 seed from District 5 while Carrington will have the #2 seed with a 25-7 overall record.
In the Region 3 qualification matches, Oakes Tornadoes and Ellendale Cardinals both advanced with wins. The Tornadoes got off to a rocky start in the opening set of 3-1 victory over Edgely-Kulm (E-K). Leading 24-19, the Tornadoes gave up 7 straight points to the Rebels and lost 26-24. The Tornadoes quickly avenged the opening set loss with 3 convincing wins 25-10, 25-17, 25-14 to advance to the Region 3 tourney with an impressive 27-9 overall record. Shelby Roney led Oakes with a match high 19 kills and tied teammate Abbey Forward with a match high 4 aces. E-K finished there season with 14-19 overall record.
The Ellendale Cardinals (14-19) swept the Midkota Mustangs ( 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-12) to advance to the Region 3 tourney. The Cardinals were paced by Isabel Wedell’s match high 20 kills. Sam Pernsteiner had a match high 4 aces, aiding the Ellendale win. Midkota who finishes the season with a 5-26 overall record was led by Taylor Sabinash with 12 kills.
