All resolutions on the agenda were passed including a request from the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation to participate in the Red River Valley Water Supply Project. The project will help identify reliable sources of water of sufficient quantity and quality to supply homes, businesses, industries, wildlife and recreation within the state for the next five decades.
A big item for the council was the second reading of an ordinance to allow the usage of UTV’s on city streets. Council Member Steve Brubakken opened the discussion by stating that he would be voting no on the issue.
Council Member Dan Buchanan supported Brubakken in his research.
Several community members came forward to show their support of the ordinance. Nick Hardy gave his input on the issue.
One item that Council Member Buchanan brought up was the safety of UTV users. Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser stated that there has been no reports of injuries while operating a UTV on public streets in the county.
The City Council ultimately passed the new ordinance on a 3 to 2 vote with members Buchanan and Brubakken voting in opposition.
