CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead over Central Cass on a cloudy day at Hannah Field.
However, it wouldn’t be enough as the Squirrels took advantage of two turnovers in the second half to come storming back and win 22-20 over the Hi-Liners.
Nate Volk started the comeback with a 9 yard rushing touchdown with 6:50 left to go in the third quarter, which trimmed the lead to 20-6.
Jack Morris hit Andrew Jahnke for a 16 yard touchdown reception midway through the fourth to cut the lead to 20-14, after a Grady Bresnahan to Jahnke two-point conversion.
Volk had the final score of the game, when he rushed in a touchdown from one yard out to tie the game at 20 apiece with 2:36 left to go.
Bresnahan hit Dillin Dooley on the two-point conversion for the game winning play for Central Cass.
The Squirrels advance to the semifinal round of the Class AA playoffs against Fargo Shanley next weekend.
Valley City ends their season at 7-3 overall.
