N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It’s not a secret; Winter weather is imminent.
This week has been proclaimed as Severe Winter Weather Awareness Week by Governor Jack Dalrymple. Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist stated that now is the time to start preparing for the change in weather.
That kit includes blankets, a change of clothes, first aid kit, shovel and most importantly, a cell phone.
Jerry stated that it was important for individuals to know the difference between advisories, watches and warnings. A watch means that there’s a possibility for that type of weather. A warning means that type of weather is imminent. Bergquist also pointed out that preparedness is key when it comes to winter weather and made reference to a storm that occurred in March 2011 in the area.
Over 800 people were stranded that day in 2011. Bergquist pointed out that crews rescued individuals from their vehicles and housed them at different locations in Stutsman County.
