S.D. – Dacotah Bank and North Star Athletic Association are proud to announce the ninth edition of the Football Players-of-the-Week Monday. Cody Smith of Waldorf (Iowa) was named to Offensive Player-of-the-Week.Nicholas McBeain of Valley City State (N.D.) was selected to Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Daveon Banks of Dakota State (S.D.) was chosen as Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.

Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Cody Smith – Waldorf (Iowa) – 6’4” – 230 lbs., Sophomore – quarterback – Indianola, Iowa – Smith completed 15 passes in 23 attempts for 148 yards and threw for three touchdowns in Waldorf’s (Iowa) 28-14 victory over Presentation (S.D.). He replaced freshman starter Brandon Butts, who was sidelined by a back injury just minutes into the game. Smith quickly settled in on his first play of the opening drive and fired a 29-yard touchdown pass to LaMont Johnson.

Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Nicholas McBeain – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6’” – 242 lbs., Sophomore – linebacker – Shakopee, Minn. – McBeain recorded 20 tackles (8 solo) to lead Valley City State’s (N.D.) defense in 12-6 victory over Jamestown (N.D.). The Vikings allowed just two field goals in the game. McBeain topped 100 tackles for the second straight season for VCSU. He is the first Viking to do that two years in a row since Josh Kasowski in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Daveon Banks – Dakota State (S.D.) – 5’8” – 170 lbs., Freshman – kickoff returner/running back – Leesville, La. –Trailing 21-19 early in the fourth quarter, Banks set the tone for Dakota State (S.D.) as he returned a kick-off of 65 yards from DaSU’s 5-yard line to Mayville State’s 30-yard line. From there, the Trojans regained their lead at 22-21 after Nic Behrens kicked a 27-yard field goal and extended Trojans’ lead with a touchdown, securing a 28-21 victory over the Comets. Banks finished the game with two kick-off returns for a total of 85 yards (42.5 yards per kickoff return).
