(NewsDakota.com) In week two of the regular season, the Larimore High School football team shut out Oakes and put up 31 points.

In the opening round of the Class A Playoffs, the Polar Bears didn’t shut out the visiting Tornadoes like the previous time, but they scored more points and won by a larger margin.

Alex Mutch scored three touchdowns, and a kickoff return as regulation time expired to give the Polar Bears a resounding 46-6 victory Saturday. Royce Verkuehlen added another two scores, one of which came on an interception return for a score.

Oakes quarterback Grayson Roney threw three interceptions, one to end each of the Tornadoes first three drives. The lone score for Oakes came in the final minute of the game on a three yard run by Brody Bartholomew. A two-point conversion was unsuccessful.

The fourth-ranked Polar Bears (8-1) head to Carrington on Saturday, October 31 to face the number two ranked Cardinals (8-0). Carrington secured a first-round bye after winning the Region I Regular Season Championship. Coverage can be heard on KDAK-AM 1600 and NewsDakota.com
