CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – According to an INFORUM report, Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson pulled his gun on a man who was playing with air soft guns with his kids in their front yard earlier this month.

Chief Thompson stated that he was driving by a home on October 10 when he saw a man holding what appeared to be an AR-15 rifle and children diving behind things. He stopped his car, drew his weapon from about 100 feet away and ordered the man to drop the weapon.

Thompson says he soon realized his mistake and explained the misunderstanding to the man. He says the incident had nothing to do with his recent announcement that he is resigning in January.

No weapons were fired and no one was injured.
